IRF – Infineon Technologies
I learned from another thread here that this makes sense, because a higher gate voltage will let more current flow through the transistor. Sign up using Email and Password. Email Required, but never shown. You cannot drive the IRF in the manner shown.
If the circuit is connect as in the picture only 0. I suspected the transistor to be broken, but I switched it out several times and the results were the same. Thanks a lot, now the circuit works exactly as I irff3205 My basic idea is that if the soil gets to dry the adta sets the gate voltage, which turns the transistor on and the valve opens. Looking at the details in the datasheet you need to understand that the V GS is applied between the Gate and source of the N-Channel FET, you can look at Figure 1 to see the switching characteristics.

I use a IRF transistor, which might be a bit of an overkill, but it was the smallest I had. Sign up using Facebook. I built this circuit as part of an automatic irrigation system and I am not sure how high the gate voltage should be: However I build the exact same project xata months ago and used the exact same parts – the same resistances, the same transistor type and the same valve and it worked perfectly with a 5V gate voltage.
When I connected the gate pin of the transistor directly to the 12V power source the circuit worked as intended and the valve opened. Home Questions Tags Users Unanswered. Sign up or log in Sign up using Google.
Running your Arduino at 5 V this should work ok out to a couple of Amps. The LED is to easily see if the valve is open or closed. irr3205
